A small Porthcawl team, no open roles right now, and an open door for the right speculative application.

Working at Sion Jones Commercials

What you are walking into if you join us: a small team, a busy office, and the same people answering the phone on a Friday afternoon that you met at interview.

We are a small Porthcawl team. Most of the people here have been with the business for years, not months. That is deliberate. Commercial vehicle sales rewards long customer relationships, and long customer relationships need staff who stick around.

We move fast because there are no layers. A decision about a deal, a part exchange valuation or a delivery date gets made in the same conversation it was raised in, not escalated up a chain. That means fewer meetings, less internal politics and more time actually talking to customers.

It also means there is nowhere to hide. If you are the kind of person who does good work when nobody is watching, you will like it here. If you need a manager breathing down your neck to stay productive, you probably will not.

What we value

Three things we care about more than anything on a CV. If these do not sound like you, we are probably not the right fit and that is fine.

Straight-talking

No jargon with customers, no corporate script. If a deal does not stack up, we say so. If we do not know the answer, we say that too and go and find out.

Owning the deal

Whoever picks up a customer sees it through to delivery. No handoffs, no passing the enquiry round the office, no losing detail in translation. One name on the account from start to finish.

Getting it right over getting it sold

We lose more deals to honesty than we win, and we are fine with that. A customer who walks away this week because we told them the truth is a customer who calls back next year when they actually need a van.

Current vacancies

The honest answer, not the aspirational one.

No open rolesApril 2026

We do not have an open role right now

That said, the right person walking through the door tends to create a role rather than fill one. If you are a natural salesperson, a detail-oriented finance administrator, or someone who knows commercial vehicles inside out, we still want to hear from you.

We have hired from speculative applications before. The common thread has been people who could clearly articulate what they would bring to the business, rather than just asking whether we were hiring.

Send a speculative CVNo online forms. One email, one human reads it.

How to apply

One email, CV attached, a short note about yourself. No online forms, no application portal, no automated rejections.

Email sales@sionjonescommercials.co.uk with your CV and a short covering note. The note matters more than the CV polish. Tell us:

  • Whether you have commercial vehicle experience (dealership, broker, manufacturer, fleet operator)
  • Whether you have finance administration experience (proposals, underwriting, compliance, documents)
  • Whether you have customer-facing sales experience in any industry
  • Why Sion Jones Commercials specifically, not any van dealer

We reply to every application, whether we have a role open or not. It might take a few days if we are mid-month-end, but you will hear back.

Ready to apply?

Send your CV and a short note to sales@sionjonescommercials.co.uk. We read every one.

No current vacancy does not mean no interest. The right application opens doors that were not advertised.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer apprenticeships?

Not currently. We are a small team and apprenticeships need a structured mentor and training framework that we are not set up to run right now. If that changes we will list it here and advertise it locally in Porthcawl and Bridgend.

Is the role office-based or remote?

Office-based in Porthcawl. We work face to face with customers, other local businesses and the wider Sion Jones group, and the phones, paperwork and van handovers all happen from the office. Occasional site visits to customers are part of the role. We do not run remote or hybrid sales roles.

Do I need commercial vehicle industry experience?

Useful, but not essential. The product knowledge can be learned in a few months if you are willing to put the hours in. What is harder to teach is the temperament: patience on the phone, attention to paperwork, and the honesty to tell a customer when a deal is not right for them. If you have those, industry experience is a bonus rather than a requirement.

What does the recruitment process look like?

Usually a first phone call to talk through your CV and what you are looking for, then a face-to-face in Porthcawl with Sion and a member of the team. For sales and finance admin roles we might ask you to walk us through how you would handle a specific customer scenario. We try to move quickly, but we also take the time to get the fit right on both sides.
